AMD: Eat more fruits to reduce failing eyesight

by What Doctors Don't Tell You - 3/1/2009
One of the things about growing older is that eyesight will worsen – but the process can be dramatically slowed by changing your diet to a more healthy one, new research has found.

Introducing more fruits, vegetables and nuts into your diet can slow the progression of failing eyesight – called age-related macular degeneration (AMD) – by as much as 20 per cent.

AMD is one of the most common causes of blindness in the elderly, and researchers are discovering that poor diet plays a significant part in the disease’s development.  And it’s not just AMD that is affected by diet.  Other eye problems such as glaucoma and cataracts can also be slowed by a better diet.  Even a small change in your current diet, such as the eating of more vegetables, can have a big effect on eye health, say the researchers from the University of Liverpool.
