Appetite suppressants have been linked to high blood pressure in France - so is it the same the world over? In Britain, a study of 55 patients found that just three had taken appetite suppressants, and then only briefly.

Although there is not yet enough evidence, doctors have been warned to be on their guard. In France, appetite suppressants have been used far more widely and for longer periods (Br Heart J, 1995; 74: 660-3).
