Some Women Try Acupuncture to Conceive
For women trying unsuccessfully to have a baby there are many grueling and expensive options to explore. But some women are adding another option to the list -- acupuncture. Many medical experts say acupuncture is able to deal with some of the problems relating to an inability to conceive. In some cases it's a matter of easing the stress and dealing with the patient's state of mind. Harvard University has started a behavioral medicine program to treat infertile couples.

Depression May Lead to Obesity
A new study indicates that depression during childhood is associated with obesity in adulthood. Researchers found that depressed children had a larger body mass index as adults than those who were non-depressed as children. This association could not be explained by other factors, including age, gender, cigarette or alcohol use, social class, and pregnancy or medical history. Studying this connection is important because of the lack of effective treatments for obesity.

Vitamins Help Patients Cope with Cancer Treatments
While researching an experimental cancer drug, researchers found that giving folic acid and B12 to patients deficient in those common vitamins significantly reduced side-effects from the therapy. Even patients who weren't low on the two vitamins had fewer side-effects after taking B12 and folic acid at normally recommended doses.

Dr. Galland's Integrated Medicine
Epidemics of parasitic infection from contaminated water and of bacterial food poisoning from chicken or hamburger serve notice that the U.S. food and water supply is not safe, according to Leo Galland, M.D. Pesticides and preservatives provide no protection from the current crop of microbes and pose health hazards of their own. In the column "Eating Safely in a Polluted World: You Don't Have to Choose Between Microbes and Chemicals!" Dr. Galland offers several simple, effective measures you can follow to protect yourself and those you love from the effects of eating contaminated food and water--avoiding both microbial and chemical contaminants in food and drink and building resistance to them if you are exposed.

Mind Body Health Newsletter
In "Reducing Stress Reduces Heart Disease" David S. Sobel, M.D. reports on a study of patients with heart disease where it was found that relaxation, taming hostility, and helping people change the way they look at life's challenges can reduce their risk of having further heart problems by 75% compared to people given only usual medical care and medications. Reducing stress proved even more beneficial than getting exercise.

Keeping Fit
Golf is a most challenging activity due to the complexity and intricacy of the game. However, you may not be aware that the golf swing is one of the most difficult and demanding physical skills in the sports world. In "Getting In Shape For Golf" Wayne Westcott, Ph.D. details his years of research which have contributed to the new attitude towards strength training for golfers. He outlines a basic strength training protocol with 15 exercises for the major muscle groups and six standard stretching exercises.

Echoes of Silence
Do you ask profound questions like "Who are we?" In "The Bottom Line Of Spirituality" Robert Rabbin explains that we usually think we are what we are not. The solution is to recognize who we are, now, in this moment. This awakening into who we are is the bottom line of spiritual realization, not a matter of learning something new. It is not about new insights or experiences or abilities. Realization occurs in a total release of the defining tension and contraction produced by thoughts, images, and reactions. When our relaxation is profound enough, we awaken into who we are.
