"Chinese Medicine Is Here to Stay"
This article highlights the fact that Chinese medicine is a form of medicine that is based on a perception of the reality of health and disease that is fundamentally distinct from modern allopathic (conventional Western) medicine. Further, the science of this perception has only recently been integrated into the Western world view, which in part explains why Chinese medicine, though previously introduced to the Western medical profession, was not accepted heretofore. Chinese medicine's unique way of approaching health and disease is further examined with respect to Qi Qong and Chinese herbal medicine.

Dr. Galland's Integrated
Medicine
Epidemics of parasitic infection from contaminated water and of bacterial food poisoning from chicken or hamburger serve notice that the U.S. food and water supply is not safe, according to Leo Galland, M.D. Pesticides and preservatives provide no protection from the current crop of microbes and pose health hazards of their own. In the column "Eating Safely in a Polluted World: You Don't Have to Choose Between Microbes and Chemicals!" Dr. Galland offers several simple, effective measures you can follow to protect yourself and those you love from the effects of eating contaminated food and water--avoiding both microbial and chemical contaminants in food and drink and building resistance to them if you are exposed.

In this column, "Self-Applied Massage of the Hands," Dr. Roger Jahnke explains how to do self-applied massage to the hands.

Huperzine A is an extract from a club moss, whose action has been attributed to its ability to strongly inhibit the enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine in the synaptic cleft. In the column, "Huperzine A" Ray Sahelian, M.D. reports that this appears to be a promising alternative to cholinesterase inhibitor drugs used in Alzheimer's disease, and promising for senile memory disorders.
