Yoga It May Be A Stretch But Give These Exercises A Try
Yoga is about balance, harmony and moderation. People of all ages do yoga to increase flexibility and muscle tone while reducing stress. The practice of yoga in Western nations usually involves breathing exercises, meditation and striking physical positions called postures. Yoga teaches the skill of listening to the body.

Drop In Heart Disease Is Attributed Mostly To Healthier Living
Healthier habits rather than better medicine may account for most of the dramatic drop in heart disease among U.S. women in the last 20 years. Researchers at Harvard's medical and public health schools concluded that two-thirds of the decline was explained by the nurses eating healthier diets and not smoking.

Massage Therapy Can Provide Relief
A comprehensive massage therapy regimen can provide relief for patients suffering from subacute low back pain. Researchers report that patients who underwent the complete massage therapy regimen realized a significant decrease in the amount and intensity of back pain and a significant increase in functional ability, although patients who underwent only soft-tissue manipulation also reported functional enhancement.

Many Cancer Patients Use Complementary, Alternative
Therapies To Supplement Primary Treatment

Cancer patients who use or have an interest in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) exhibit active coping behavior with regard to their disease, rather than signs of distress or poor compliance with medical treatment. Study participants who used CAM exhibited a greater tendency to solve problems and seek information than those who did not report such use or interest. The authors suggest that patients who demonstrate active coping styles may have a better psychological adjustment to their illness because they find ways to reduce feelings of hopelessness and helplessness.

Dr. Galland's Integrated Medicine
Dr. Leo Galland, author of "Power Healing," combines his personal research and an analysis of recent developments in medical research to enable you to learn how to heal yourself, and preventing or reversing chronic illness with the techniques of Integrated Medicine. In the column "What is Integrated Medicine?" Dr. Galland addresses conventional western medicine, alternative medical systems, and the importance of including dietary, environmental or social conditions.

The Healer Within
Every original culture on the planet earth has a system of "hands on" healing. In western cultures this is generally called massage. As the movement toward alternatives to drugs and surgery progresses massage will emerge as one of our primary new, while actually ancient, therapeutic modalities. Hospitals, and even corporations, are hiring massage therapists to help with healing and to prevent the negative impacts of stress. In this column, "Self-Applied Massage," Dr. Roger Jahnke explains how to effectively perform self-applied massage.

Dr. Weil Self-Healing
It used to be that doctors and patients alike accepted stiff, painful joints as an inevitable consequence of aging. Today Osteoarthritis (OA) is no longer considered unavoidable. It's now widely understood that the risk of OA-like that of other degenerative conditions-can be reduced by dietary and other lifestyle changes. The expensive drugs, joint injections, surgery, and other medical interventions can be reserved for the 10 to 30 percent of patients whose osteoarthritis will actually progress to severe joint damage. In his column "Osteoarthritis: A New Look " Andrew Weil, M.D. addresses the most common causes of OA, and an integrative approach to treatment.

Mind Body Health Newsletter
Patients and their partners who avoid sexual activity for fear of triggering a recurrent heart attack may needlessly deprive themselves of a rich source of pleasure and satisfaction that contributes greatly to their quality of life. In "Sexual Activity and Heart Attack: Not to Worry" David S. Sobel, M.D. shares the "Bad News" and the "Good News" that may reassure those with these concerns.

Keeping Fit with Dr. Wayne Westcott
We tend to take them for granted most of the time, but our feet are actually a very important part of our body. An injured foot can really restrict our ambulation and make everyday movements most difficult. In the column "Keeping Fit: Meet Your Feet" Dr. Wayne L. Wescott explains what we can do to reduce the risk of foot problems that restrict our exercise participation and make life less pleasant.

Care2 Ask Annie
In her latest column for environmentally conscious consumers Annie Berthold-Bond offers a recipe for killing dust mites, how to clean brass without buying a commercial cleaner, the differences between soap and detergent, a natural approach to addressing brown spots on the skin, a recipe for a hydrating facial mask, and how to use grapefruit seed extract to preserve home made natural beauty products.

"Frontiers of the Mind" With Stanislav Grof, M.D.
What if spontaneous non-ordinary states we normally treat as psychosis, were instead encouraged to be experienced fully - with the idea that the individual can get through it. In the interview "Frontiers of the Mind" Daniel Redwood, D.C. questions Stanislav Grof, M.D. about his work focusing on the use of non-drug methods for deep psycho-spiritual work. Dr. Grof presents his position that if properly understood and properly supported, these experiences are actually conducive to healing and transformation. He even identifies some institutions using this approach.

Healthy Man Update
The article "Trichomoniasis" presented by the American Institute of Preventive Medicine alerts sexually active individuals to a condition unlike most sexually transmitted diseases.
