Giving birth at home is no more dangerous than being in hospital, a major new study has found. Researchers in Holland – where home birth is very common – found that neither mother nor baby was at greater risk from a home birth provided the pregnancy was seen as being low risk.

Homeopathy relieves side effects of cancer therapies
Homeopathy isn’t quite the quack medicine its critics claim. It can help relieve some of the side effects of cancer therapy, the prestigious Cochrane Collaboration has discovered. Continuing our Wellness Journey - Intimacy
This week our journey focuses on the power of Intimacy, the 10th of 12 keys to wellness drawn from the Wellness Inventory whole person assessment program. In our modern culture, the word "intimate" has informally become synonymous with sexual intercourse. What we mean here is more in line with the dictionary definition, relating to your deepest and private nature or a close, long-term association with another person. This can be a sexual, sensual, or platonic relationship. Learning to effectively deal with conflict, respect and assert boundaries, and to connect responsibly is essential to building the trust that is essential in intimacy. Studies have shown that intimacy is a major component in one's health and happiness.      View more

The Role of Nutrition in Maintaining Good Eyesight - Martin Sussman
The visual system - the eyes, muscles, nerves and vision centers of the brain - is one of the most complex and highly demanding systems of the body. More than 25% of the nutrition your body absorbs goes to feed the visual system. The visual system consumes one third of all the oxygen that you take in. Metabolism in the eyes is faster than anywhere else in the body. It's not surprising, then, that proper nutrition plays an extremely important role in preventing and treating all of the common eye problems - myopia, presbyopia, cataract, macular degeneration and glaucoma. Part 1 of 2.      View more

NATURAL ALTERNATIVES

Holistic Healthcare for Children - "Preschoolers Use of Cigarettes and Alcohol" - Randall Neustaedter, OMD
Although parents often believe that young children do not think about tobacco or alcohol, prevention of these behaviors should probably begin with 2 or 3 year-olds. In "Preschoolers Use of Cigarettes and Alcohol" Randall Neustaedter, O.M.D. cites the disturbing results of a recent study on the impact of parental actions and the media on children, and urges parents to evaluate their own behavior as role models to create healthy habits in their very impressionable children.      View more

Integrative Dentistry - "Bulimia and Oral Health" - Flora Parsa Stay, DDS
Bulimia nervosa is most commonly diagnosed in women between the ages of 18 and 30, who have had a history of obesity. This eating disorder as well as being a psychiatric disorder affects the whole body physically and specially the oral health. Due to the physical changes that result in the oral structures, many times dentists are the first to diagnose bulimia", according to Flora Parsa Stay, DDS in "Bulimia and Oral Health".      View more

David Cundiff, MD: Bias Issues Inherent in Bravewell's Focus on Evidence-Based Medicine in Reform
In this response to the Bravewell Collaboration's listing of evidence-based medicine (EBM) and reimbursement reform as key factors in any healthcare transformation, David Cundiff, MD points out that "randomized controlled clinical trials and other tools of EBM are mostly funded by special interests and interpreted by researchers paid by those special interests." Thus "the evaluation of EBM trials is and will remain controversial." Cundiff, author Money Driven Medicine, argues that one-third of the HEDIS measures which shape insurer decisions on what get covered, are "highly questionable." Sponsors of these measures, Cundiff notes, include a who's who of major pharmaceutical firms. Can one even imagine a level playing field for an evidence-based inclusion of integrative, natural therapeutic approaches?
