Antibiotics: They never help cold-like symptoms
One of the main reasons that people visit the doctor is for cold-like symptoms – which medicine calls upper respiratory tract infections or rhinosinusitis. However, a new study published in Lancet shows that virtually no one with rhinosinusitis benefited from antibiotics. View more

The Charlie Rose Show Examines Integrative Medicine
On March 18, 2008, Christy Mack (President, The Bravewell Collaborative), Harvey Fineberg, MD (President, Institute of Medicine at the National Academies) and Ralph Synderman, MD (Chancellor Emeritus, Duke University) were interviewed by Charlie Rose for his PBS television talk show, The Charlie Rose Show. The topic of conversation was integrative medicine. The conversation explored the problems inherent in our failing health care system and how the use of integrative medicine can not only improve the health of the American public, but also reduce care-related costs. Dr. Fineberg addressed why the Institute of Medicine, the nation's top advisor on biomedical science, medicine and health, has a growing interest in integrative medicine. The show is expected to air sometime in the near future. To confirm the date, please check the schedule posted on www.charlierose.com

Integrator Blog - What Must Chiropractic Do to Gain "Cultural Authority"?
The theme this year for the Association of Chiropractic Colleges and Research Agenda Conference (ACC-RAC) meeting was "cultural authority." From March 13-15, 2008, I had a chance to attend, for the first time, and present at this gathering of 350 educators, researchers, policy leaders and administrators principally based in accredited chiropractic colleges and research institutions. Despite advances on many fronts, "cultural authority" has been an elusive gold ring that the chiropractic has been pursuing in recent years. The positioning around "CAM" factors in that pursuit. Here are some reflections on what I saw and heard on this theme as I moved through the conference. View more

The Homeopathic Revolution: Why Famous People and Cultural Heroes Choose Homeopathy
What do Mark Twain, David Beckham, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Mother Teresa have in common? All have been enthusiastic fans of homeopathy, the alternative medical tradition that treats "like with like." Homeopathy has an incredible history of support by many of the most respected people of the past 200 years, and modern science is finally catching up. In The Homeopathic Revolution, Dana Ullman blends vivid personal stories and quotes from these and other luminaries from a variety of eras and fields with a new definition of homeopathy as "nanopharmacology"—one that will help people, including skeptics, start to understand its value. Fabulous Functional Foods - Baked Bananas with Sweet, Sour, and Spicy Sauce
The notion that a green banana is a good banana is a grave mistake. Brown spots on the skin are not a sign of spoiling, but a sign that the bananas are ready to be consumed. Rather than just "consuming" them, however, consider turning your ripe bananas into a delicious dessert or snack worthy of a gourmet palette. Danish chef Oscar Umahro Cadogan has created for you the recipe "Baked Bananas with Sweet, Sour, and Spicy Sauce." Note that all of the ingredients are natural and address the special diet considerations
for: Dairy-free; Gluten-free; Low Fat; Vegan; Vegetarian; Anti-cancer; Cardiovascular Disease; Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. View More
Raw Food Materia Medica - Raspberries
Raspberries are members of the rose family in which apples, peaches, plums and strawberries are also included. Raspberries are known for their high content of Vitamin C and potassium. In Chinese medicine, raspberries are regarded as a tonic for the kidneys and liver. They help to build the blood, hence are good for anemia. Raspberries are cleansing and have been used as a traditional medicine for diarrhea, frequent urination, impotence, high blood pressure, parasites, excess menstrual bleeding and rheumatism. Raspberries are very alkaline and help to improve mucous conditions such as catarrh. Antiviral properties have been discovered in the raspberry.

Wholistic Spiritual Healing - Daniel Benoir, MD
It is estimated that only 5% of our brain capacity is within conscious awareness. This means that we have another 95% of brain/consciousness capacity we can tap. In "The Body (Part 6): Physical, bodymind, energetic, and potential doorway to spiritual awareness" Daniel J. Benor, M.D. explains how Applied Kinesiology (AK) provides methods for using the body to facilitate access to the unconscious mind. When you are emotionally upset, as in depression, anxiety or anger, your body becomes weaker. If you
think about something that is distressing, your muscles will reflect this.

Echoes of Silence
Our conditioned, patterned way of living may be disrupted by the unexpected. An accident, a sudden reversal of fortune, or the death of a loved one. Another way in which disruption may appear in our lives is through grace, an encounter with someone who has been overwhelmed by reality and who naturally projects that inner state out into the world, where it is experienced by others. In "Welcome Epiphanies" Robert Rabbin shares a personal example of this.
