SPONSOR - INDIVIDUALIZED HEALTH SOLUTIONS

VITAMINS BASED ON YOUR BODY'S NEEDS, NOT RDA's

There is no more need for confusion about the vitamins and minerals your body personally needs. One-size-fits-all vitamin formulas are last century's technology. Individualized formulas based on your unique biochemical needs are now possible and affordable.

With over 30,000 genes each person is Bio-Chemically unique. After 20 years of clinical research, on over 20,000 clients, analyzing over 100 vital blood, tissue and urine tests a group of scientists can now determine each individual's basic nutrient needs.

"There is no more guess work involved - now you can take control of your health with the Signature Supplement individualized nutritional program." says Gary D. Sandman, president of Individual Health Solutions, llc. "We can now provide you with an individualized nutritionally bio-matched multi-vitamin, mineral and amino acid supplement to help maintain your youthfulness and optimize your health and wellbeing. You can feel the difference bio-matched vitamins do for you." As featured on recent NBC newscasts.

Access to Medical Treatment Act Introduced to House of Representatives
The Access to Medical Treatment Act was recently introduced in the House by Representatives Burton and DeFazio (H.R. 2792) and is expected to be reintroduced in the Senate shortly. This bill would not only guarantee consumers access to the full range of therapies, it would also protect licensed healthcare practitioners from censure and harassment for using so-called alternative therapies. It also helps ensure patients' safety, returns the decision-making authority to the patient, and reinforces the sanctity of the doctor-patient relationship. Opposition is anticipated from organizations such as the American Medical Association, the American Heart Association, the Center for Science in the Public Interest, Federation of State Medical Boards, and others.

Codex Alimentarius Commission Passed Guidelines
International mandatory trade standards for dietary supplements took a giant first step July 4, 2005 with the finalization of the "Codex Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements" at the CAC session in Rome. Some fear these restrictive regulations could be imposed on the U.S. Preliminary reports indicate there were minimal objections prior to the Guidelines being finalized by consensus.

Pioneering Activist/Surgeon Leads New Preventive Campaign Against Breast Cancer
Christine Horner, M.D., FACS, who has been at the front lines of the fight against breast cancer for over ten years, is launching a new campaign to dispel the commonly held misperception that there is little a woman can do to substantially lower her risk of breast cancer or improve her chances of surviving it. Her goal is to reverse the alarming increase in the rate of breast cancer by raising awareness of the dozens of research-proven natural approaches that are highly effective at protecting against and fighting breast cancer. Dr. Horner emphasizes that even in a highly toxic environment, many common foods, natural spices, herbs and supplements can help to significantly protect women from breast cancer.

Schwarzenegger's Employee Safety Award for its groundbreaking program that helps employees practice healthy computing habits. The six-week program, offered every spring, combines basic ergonomic principles with instructions on how to break unhealthful work habits.

WELLNESS and HEALTHY LIVING

Simply Well
The philosophy of taking one day at a time is a healthy one. When you live in either the past or the future, you miss what is going on right in front of your nose. When you are going through hard times, the habit of living essentially in the present, one day at a time, can literally mean the difference between breakdown and sanity. In "Be Here Now" John W. Travis, M.D., M.P.H., lists tips for ways to stay present.

Keeping Fit
Sixty minutes of exploring different walking trails in your local state park is a delightful alternative to a 30 minutes jog around the track. In "Park Season" Wayne Westcott, Ph.D. describes how a fast walk up and down the undulating trails provides an excellent exercise session. The varied terrain, the beautiful trees, shrubs and rock formations, the birds, squirrels and rabbits keep your attention focused on the environment rather than on your watch.

Staying Healthly Tips
School is out and it's time to play, be outdoors, and go somewhere fun. With the heat of the year coming, Elson M. Haas, M.D. reminds us that WATER is the balancing element of Summer. In "Tips on Staying Healthy with Water" he shares why drinking water is one of our most important health habits. Learn how to sort out the facts and the fiction.

Tips for a Healthy Summer
Would you recognize the symptoms of an insect sting? Read "First Aid for Insect Stings" for valuable prevention tips, plus important guidelines for how to evaluate the severity of the situation.

NATURAL ALTERNATIVES

Nutritional Medicine and Longevity
In "What is Orthomolecular Medicine?" Richard A. Kunin, M.D. defines it as a strategy for the maintenance of health and the treatment of disease by varying the amounts of substances normally found in the body, such as vitamins and minerals. Orthomolecular medicine is nutritional biochemistry applied to understanding health and treating disease.

Women's Health Detective
If you're like most women and take 1,500 mg of calcium and half as much magnesium, you've got it all backwards. You're getting too much calcium and not enough magnesium. In "How Calcium and Magnesium Can Slow Down Aging" Nan Kathryn Fuchs, Ph.D. shares important facts. Magnesium is needed to carry calcium into your bones. The same ratio of calcium to magnesium you take to keep your bones strong and flexible will also keep you young at heart. When you're under stress, increase your magnesium and keep calcium levels reasonable, not high.

Healthy Alternatives
HealthWorld Online has set up a Magnetic Field Therapy section at www.healthy.net/clinic/therapy/magnetic

The content includes articles such as "Magnetic Therapy" from the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, which notes that there are many well-established uses for the application of measurable energy fields to diagnose or treat diseases: electromagnetic fields in magnetic resonance imaging, cardiac pacemakers, radiation therapy, ultraviolet light for psoriasis, laser keratoplasty, and more.

Healthy Child
The wheeze of asthma is caused by contraction of the muscular walls of the small breathing tubes in the lung. In "Asthma" George T. Lewith, M.A., M.R.C.G.P., M.R.C.P. offers parents an option for using acupuncture to dilate the muscular walls.

Find an Alternative Healthcare Professional

Healthy Bookstore - The Arthritis Action Program

Often considered an "old folks" affliction, arthritis is the medical term for more than 100 diseases and conditions that affect the joints of about one out of six Americans--old and young. Treatment for this debilitating, chronic condition is complicated, so in "The Arthritis Action Program: An Integrated Plan of Traditional and Complementary Therapies" Harvard Medical School professor of medicine Michael Weinblatt, M.D., developed a comprehensive guide to explain arthritis "in plain English" and offer preventative and prescriptive suggestions for successful pain management. His goal: to foster equal optimism and skepticism, thus empowering the patient to make informed decisions. Weinblatt includes a helpful refresher course on bone health and outlines steps to find a health-care provider.

HEALTHY KITCHEN

Nutrition Tips
Although we reach for the coffee or tea cup hoping to boost our energy, studies show that we are actually inducing a state of stress. Caffeine drives the adrenal glands to produce stress hormones that can remain in the blood stream up to 18 hours after consumption. In "The Hidden Link Between Stress, Aging and Caffeine" Caroline MacDougall sheds new light on lifestyle practices that ultimately lead to fatigue, plus tips for kicking the caffeine habit.

MIND-BODY-SPIRIT

Mind/Body Health
Most people don't just want to live long lives. They want to live long healthy lives. We all know people who have been very successful at aging - not just the "super elders" who run marathons, but ordinary people who maintain vital, active lives, even in the face of chronic illness, says David S. Sobel, M.D. in "The Keys to Healthy Aging." But what are the predictors of healthy aging? The results of a 16-year study of nearly 400 older men and women age 65-95 shed interesting light on some of the key factors.

Music and Wellness
In "Music-Making for Corporate Wellness" Christine Stevens, M.S.W., MT-BC tells us about an amazing, revolutionary step towards the practical application of music making for wellness.
