'Aspirin Doesn't Protect Women from Having Heart Attacks'; Results of Major 10-year Study Challenge Current Medical Advice
Current medical advice - in line with that given to men - is that women thought to be at risk of developing heart disease should take a low aspirin dose every day. Tests on 40,000 healthy women over 10 years found those who took 100mg of aspirin every other day were no less likely to suffer attacks than women given a placebo. Therefore, it appears that aspirin does not protect women from heart attacks.
Milk Isn't What Makes Bones Strong
Though Americans are some of the world's highest consumers of dairy products, U.S. rates of osteoporosis and bone fracture also are among the world's highest. The non-profit Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine presents an explanation. This research group found that a clear majority of the studies examined for this review found no relationship between dairy or dietary calcium intake and measures of bone health. They feel that there is little connection between calcium and bone health and "scant" evidence backing current U.S. recommendations on the intake of dairy products.
Surgery Can Produce Several Types of Infections
Of the nearly 30 million operations in the United States each year, more than 2 percent are complicated by a surgical-site infection. Infections can appear while the patient is staying in the hospital or after the patient has gone home. If you factor in infections that arise after a patient leaves, the rate is probably much higher.

WHAT THE BLEEP DO WE KNOW? NOW AVAILABLE ON DVD & HOME VIDEO
What the Bleep Do We Know?, the amazing, record-breaking independent film that burst on the cinematic scene last year is now coming out in DVD and home video, March 15th, from Fox Home Entertainment, pleasing its millions of dedicated fans around the country. "This is a film that dares to treat people as smart and deeply curious rather than dumb and deeply cynical." - Dallas Morning News

WELLNESS and
HEALTHY LIVING
Simply Well
As a form of nurturance and rebalancing, and as an aid to healing, massage is hard to beat. It isn't necessary to have formal training. In "Welcome Necessary, Healing Touch-The Gift of Massage" John W. Travis, M.D., M.P.H., offers you numerous suggestions for self-massage and exercises that can be done with a partner.
Keeping Fit
Did you know there is essentially no difference between men and women with respect to exercise technique, training procedures or strength development? Basically, what is good for the goose is equally good for the gander. In "Strength Training for Women" Dr. Wayne L. Wescott disproves the common misconceptions that women should not do strength exercise, and presents a "High-Intensity Strength Training" program for women that develops strong and shapely muscles that are fit and functional.
Conscious Relationships
The reason control never works in relationships is that we're usually trying to control something that's uncontrollable. In "How to Get Free of Jealousy Part II" Gay and Kathlyn Hendricks offer a two-step process. First, you find out what you're really afraid of. Then, you talk about the fear and grief openly, preferably with the person you're jealous about. In a healthy, conscious relationship jealousy doesn't recycle because the partners talk about it on a deeper level.

Dr. Teitelbaum's comprehensive and aggressive metabolic approach to treatment makes fibromyalgia a very treatable disorder. In "Q and A on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia with Jacob Teitelbaum, M.D. - #10" Dr. Teitelbaum reports study results documenting enhanced quality of life and decreased pain for the participating patients.
Healthy Alternatives
Every original culture on the planet earth has a system of "hands on" healing. In western cultures this is generally called massage. As the movement toward alternatives to drugs and surgery progresses massage will emerge as one of our primary new, while actually ancient, therapeutic modalities. Hospitals, and even corporations, are hiring massage therapists to help with healing and to prevent the negative impacts of stress. In "Self-Applied Massage of the Feet" Dr. Roger Jahnke explains how to do self-applied massage to the feet.
Healthy Child
Some people theorize that the reason for colic is that the infant is allergic to milk or to some other food. In "Homeopathic Pediatrics" Dana Ullman, M.P.H. presents the homeopathic view of colic that food is not "the problem." Rather, it is the individual's underlying state of health. The disease process produces poor assimilation and utilization of the food, which then ultimately creates symptoms. Homeopaths have found that the homeopathic medicines are effective in reestablishing health and thereby reducing food allergies.

The most common causes of headaches are tension and stress. Most effective programs for headache control, other than drug treatments, rely on prevention. In "Nutritional Program for Headaches" Michael Janson, M.D. offers a supplement program that is often effective for the drug-free management of migraines and may also help the treatment of other headaches.

MIND-BODY-SPIRIT
Mind Over Matter
"Stroke Prevention: Tell your wife to take a hike" says Barry Bittman, M.D. Actually a brisk 30-minute walk each day will do. A study found that women who perform a half hour or more of vigorous exercise each day have the potential to reduce their chances of experiencing the most common form of stroke by 30%.
Spiritual Wellness
We know from a growing body of scientific research that religious participation and spiritual practices are good for the health of our bodies. In "Vehicle Maintenance" Philip Goldberg notes that what we don't often appreciate is the reverse: that attending to our bodies can be good for our spiritual lives. How we eat, how we exercise, how we sit, how we breathe; what we look at and listen to; what we surround ourselves with and expose ourselves to - they all influence our spiritual destinies.
